The Plaine 
The house is situated on the hillside called Potami some 600m outside Fourni overlooking Fourni and Kastelli, traditional Cretan villages. In the background you see the mountains of Lasithi. The plaine rises from Neapolis 320m above sea level and falls with a beautiful serpentine road towards Elounda and Plaka, both small Tourist resorts. The former fishing harbours are now predominately used for excursion and sightseeing boats.

Where about is fourni
Fourni is a small traditional village of some 200 inhabitants in the district of Lasithi northeast of Crete, Greece.
Except of two cafenions there are no tourist facilities. More details to find the house.

The House
The house covers 130qm of the 4000qm piece of hillside. It has an open downstairs with the sitting room and kitchen and a toilet. Upstairs is the bathroom and two double bedrooms and a big terrace.

kitchen
Simple kitchen with a sink with cold and hot water and a two ring electric cooker. There is also small camping gas for quick use. there are enough pots, cutlery, crockery and other kitchen paraphernalia for 6 people. In front of the kitchen is a small shady patio where you can eat when you are more than 2 people or in the winter on the sitting room table.

bedrooms
left: The South bedroom opens to the front terrace and also on the back to the garden. It can be heated in winter with a wood stove.
Right: the north room opens to the bigger part of the terrace. It is rather warm in winter due to the chimney passing through from the fireplace downstairs.

Terrace 
Both bedrooms open to this terrace where you can also sunbath nakedly. There is a mattress you can move outside. Around the house are several patios and verandas to withdraw undisturbed, talk, read,eat, have a drink, or simply enjoy the landscape and its sounds.

garden
From November to June the landscape is green changing into its typical brown-yellow during summertime. Some plants are watered during summer thus still pleasuring the eye with some green and colors. More....

We try to maintain a natural, biological garden.. Most part of the 4000 qm are left natural, cutting the grass by hand in May. Apart from palm trees, some fruit trees, young olive trees and a few easy tough flowers, wild sage, oregano and a lot of other wild plants and flowers can be found growing, blossoming, maturate and wittering all the year round without getting watered by us. There are books in the house you can learn more about them.

creatures
Because the house is in the middle of nature you must accept that you are the guest there, not the animals and insects. If you hear a sudden rustling in the Oleander it might not be a snake or mouse but a hedgehog, a weasel or the odd wild domestic cat which regularly control the area. I havnt seen a mouse nor a snake since ages. Besides, if you are really lucky and see a snake she wont be poisonous and gone too quick to have a closer look.
Crete inhabits many birds, use the binocular to observe them and use our books to find out which birds they are. Several times we have had a flockover twenty vultures above the house.More...

water
Water is expensive and because we have to pump it up to these tanks also rare, because of this limited amount. It is a very good opportunity to exercise careful use of water. I have set the automatic pumping for sufficient use if you do not waste it.
Simply do not flash the whole toilet container when having a pee, do not brush your teeth with running water tap, do not shower for hours. More and what you have to do when you arrive..

pond, 
a new project
Instead of a swimming pool, which maintainence is not only too expensive but also needs daily care and chemicals, I want to build a swimming pond. This is a mixture of pool and pond which will be naturally cleaned by plants and a constant influx of fresh water to replace the water we use for watering our plans. More..

rent
We do rent it out to friends or the friends of friends in order to contribute to the cost and maintainace of the house and garden. This year I ask for € 45 for the house up to 4 people.
You will need a car to hire. I can organise it for you with a very reliable CarRental for as little as €20 per day. The car can be picked up at the airport and left when depart.
